Pulp Fiction: Cameron Haber

Talk about one of the goriest movies of all time.  Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction is one of the most violent and disturbing films i have ever watched, and yet I found it rather enjoyable. Tarantino is known for his use of violence and action throughout the majority of his films. The difference is Pulp Fiction really put him on the map as a great Director. Not only did it spark a new era for "violent films" but the movie it self was actually really good. Countless amounts of times I've heard people talk about how Pulp Fiction is there favorite movie of all time, and now i get why.  One of the film techniques  Tarantino used was the use of flashbacks throughout the film. After the where Butch drives off with the "chopper" it changes sequence back to Jules, played by Samuel L. Jackson, quoting the same section of the bible that he did in the begging of the film. a few moments later we realize he's in the same room with the same people he was talking to in the begging of the film. Another technique Tarantino used was the shooting of the camera angles corresponding to certain charters in certain situations. For example when Jules and Vincent a shot with the camera when they are interrogating Brett the camera tilts up to them to make them look taller and more powerful.  When the camera shoots Brett who is obviously terrified for his life it tilts down to make him look small and weak in the eyes of the viewer. The last aspect of this film that i thought really stuck out was the characters and their development. Jules is a hard hitting gunman who works as a gangster for the mobster Marcellus Wallace. After having a near death experience which he claimed "miracle" he survived. He decides to quit the mob game and go legit as a sign from god. Butch's character played by Bruce Willis is a professional boxer who has been ordered by the same mobsters to take take a dive in the ring so the mobsters can make gambling profit. When he disobeys the order and learns he has actually killed his opponent he is no longer the good man he once was. In the span of two days he kills 3 more men for his survival. Overall between the characters, the camera techniques, the flashbacks, and gory violence, i would say Pulp Fiction is a fantastic film. Although there is really no lesson to be taken from this film perhaps that is also what makes it so unique and so great.
